In the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, we’ve seen the emergence of a new way of working. It has become known as the “The Modern, Hybrid Workplace.”

Whereas the pandemic has largely had a negative effect on the world, this disruption of our usual routines on an unprecedented scale has also presented a unique opportunity for us to rethink “work” in a modern company. The virus has broken through cultural and technological barriers that prevented remote work in the past, setting in motion a structural shift in where work takes place.

While lockdowns and separation from friends, family, and co-workers have been stressful, remote work has also given us time to rediscover the woes of “the Hamster Wheel” and reflect critically on how we want to organize our work (and life) in the future.

Most interestingly of all: Work has continued during the pandemic. In most cases, both productivity and a sense of work/life balance have increased, making the case both for the effectiveness and the human benefits of hybrid work forms in the future.

Work has continued during the pandemic. In most cases, both productivity and a sense of work/life balance have increased, making the case both for the effectiveness and the human benefits of hybrid work forms in the future.

On this basis, we’ve formulated the following principles, which should serve as a guideline for the ongoing transition towards and commitment to being a modern, hybrid workplace that supports LogPointers in doing their work in the best possible way.

Some of these initiatives are already in effect, some have been initiated, and some will be implemented in the time to come.

Principles of the Modern, Hybrid Workplace

In a modern workplace, you cannot expect people to be at their desks all day, every day. The 9-5 model is hopelessly outdated and doesn’t work for all employees, customers, or the bottom line.

Instead, the Modern, Hybrid Workplace necessitates clear principles of Leadership, Accountability, and Environment and demands a more profound commitment to these principles from employees, managers, and companies alike.

The Modern, Hybrid Workplace is culture. Therefore, these principles of work must be anchored at the core of our values and contemplated in all activities.

Autonomy & Accountability

In LogPoint, we employ talented, passionate, and ambitious people who are competent in solving the tasks for which they have been hired and who take pride in delivering their best. We, therefore, trust them to be capable of planning and executing their work in whatever way is more efficient, yet always with a sense of responsibility and accountability to their colleagues and other stakeholders.

People are different, and at LogPoint we not only celebrate this diversity but support a flexible work environment where this diversity can flourish. Skilled people know how they perform best. Not everyone is the same, and we don’t believe in a “one size fits all.”

Any employee at LogPoint can – in agreement with their manager – organize their work hours and workplace in the way that supports them in delivering their best work, if it is sensible in terms of collaboration, teamwork, and deadlines.

Fundamentally, LogPoint trusts that our employees will do their work in the best possible way and therefore wants to provide them with the flexibility to do so.

This focus on tasks rather than hours means that any employee at LogPoint can – in agreement with their manager – organize their work hours and workplace in the way that supports them in delivering their best work, if it is sensible in terms of collaboration, teamwork, and deadlines.

Communication & Leadership

Some leadership disciplines are obviously technology-enabled e.g., by using Learning Management Systems, but are still more suited for in-the-office work. These activities include coaching, counseling, providing advice and feedback; building relationships to customers and colleagues; bringing new employees into a company; negotiating and making critical decisions; teaching and training; as well as work that benefits from collaboration, such as innovation, problem-solving, and creativity.

The commitment to a flexible work environment that supports individual and team performance and well-being demands clear communication between colleagues and consistent leadership from managers.

  • At LogPoint, every person is created equal, and we don’t believe in rigid hierarchies. We encourage creativity and innovation in problem-solving and support an open, respectful dialogue where every employee’s input is valued. Only in this way can we continue to excel, both in- and outside LogPoint.
  • Managers stay close to their employees and agree on flexible ways of working directly with them. However, this demands that managers are also quick to catch on to any signs of over-work: Employees are not expected to be permanently “online”, but work in a way that reflects their aspirations and tasks.

At LogPoint, every person is created equal, and we don’t believe in rigid hierarchies. We encourage creativity and innovation in problem-solving and support an open, respectful dialogue where every employee’s input is valued. Only in this way can we continue to excel, both in- and outside LogPoint.

  • Similarly, this flexibility requires that employees can self-govern. LogPointers are responsible (in collaboration with their manager and colleagues) for planning deliverables and communicating deadlines clearly to stakeholders, and to do their very best to complete their tasks on time and in the desired quality.
  • In order to foster this ongoing dialogue around work tasks, workload, and well-being, managers ensure frequent 1:1s with all their direct reports. Herein also follow-ups on individual plans for continuous personal and professional growth.
  • Team Managers host frequent team meetings to ensure that objectives are aligned and that there is a team spirit/sense of belonging in the team. For the same reasons, social team activities should also be planned at regular intervals.
  • Managers are quick and consistent in stopping any behavior that is not in keeping with LogPoint’s values and general, good conduct towards colleagues. Many people might avoid coming to work if there are unresolved issues in working with a colleague or within a team. Managers must ensure a trusting, confidential space where such issues can be brought up and show employees that such matters will be dealt with immediately and appropriately.
  • To ensure continuous, anonymous 360 degrees feedback and subsequent actions plans, LogPoint is implementing the necessary means to obtain constant feedback loops and engage employees continuously.

Physical & Psychological Environment

If it no longer makes sense to demand that LogPointers are in the office all day, every day, it follows that we must invest in creating a physical and psychological office environment, where people spend their time, not because they must, but because they enjoy it.

  • LogPoint has promoted a People Experience Specialist whose role is to improve the physical and psychological well-being of employees. The People Experience Specialist is responsible for creating social activities, events, and other employee guidelines for “Life at LogPoint.”
  • LogPoint works continuously to create an office space where people want to be. This includes good office and IT solutions, bright surroundings with a sensible workflow, and options for different types of work (sofa arrangements, MuteBoxes, stand-up/agile meeting rooms, etc.). We will work to design our offices spaces to match the principles of the hybrid workplace and support your growth.
  • Everyone is responsible for ensuring efficient, productive meetings with a respectful code of conduct, so people don’t feel their time is wasted, but interaction with their peers is fruitful/valuable. This also means respecting the bookings of meeting rooms, starting and stopping on time, having a clear agenda, coming prepared and contributing, and leaving meeting rooms clean and fresh.
  • Some elements of the everyday working environment may be regarded as trivial as they have been part of our working life for years, but they are extremely important: We will provide healthy lunch and snack options, including beverages, to all employees. We will provide efficient and secure IT solutions for home work to all employees, and we will offer best-in-class health- and dental insurance for everyone.
  • Last but not least: At LogPoint we are good at celebrating! Big or small, we believe it is important to celebrate achievements. Not just commercial success, but also to show appreciation, e.g. of colleagues who have been good ambassadors for LogPoint’s values. Naturally, we will continue to do so.

The Hybrid Workplace is here to stay, and amidst our desire to offer each LogPointer the most satisfying working life possible, we will adapt to this reality because we believe it’s the right thing to do.

It will be a new journey, a journey that LogPoint and the company leadership are committed to and I hope to hear from all of you, if you have input on how we make LogPoint the best possible place to work.
